Article 16 of the New York City Civil Court Act authorizes the Mayor of the City of New York to appoint city marshals to serve as enforcement officers of the Civil Court.

The City Marshal enforces all judgments of the New York City Civil Court, and money judgments of the New York State Supreme Court and New York State Family Court. The Marshal's authority extends throughout the five boroughs of the City of New York.
